No Dream Deferred is a community-anchored theatre production company, founded in 2016. We prioritize cultural relevance for our community audience as well as theatrical works written by playwrights that have been historically excluded.
We recognize the systemic nature of cultural marginalization in the arts; therefore, we fight to create and to create as often as we please so that our stories are told and our dreams are never deferred. No Dream Deferred strives to be an artistic home to theatre-makers of color in New Orleans and beyond, a place where our stories are authentically realized and wonderfully experienced. The André Cailloux Center for Performing Arts and Cultural Justice seeks to render visible and disrupt institutionalized systems of oppression, and to use storytelling and remembering as ways of honoring Black culture, reclaiming identity, and promoting self-determination in association with members of the New Orleans community through engagement with the performing arts and participation in public conversations about the issues of our times.

The WE WILL DREAM: New Works Festival is a biennial event that locates the Bayou Road corridor of New Orleans as the “national meeting place” for Black playwrights originating/working in the American South to engage with compelling, artistic, intellectual, and cultural dialogue and community exploration. The festival’s goal is to serve as a bulwark of support for the professional and artistic development of Black playwrights. For year one, the festival licensed three original plays by emerging playwrights (with full productions) as well as one staged reading. For more information about the festival, click the link below.

Equity and Justice for Institutional Change [EJIC] is a service of No Dream Deferred NOLA that provides tools, resources, and training to support organizations and institutions who are wanting to cultivate meaningful shifts within their organizational culture as well as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion analysis. We bring institutions from awareness to action through a lens of dismantling white supremacy and systemic racism.
We believe that organizations and institutions have the distinct responsibility to serve as change agents and treasured community assets by leading the process of deconstructing borders and barriers to understanding across difference and modeling systems that promote equity and inclusion for historically marginalized people.
